M. Tran/Getty Images Simon Monjack is ready to let Brittany Murphy's legacy speak for itself now.
Citing the autopsy report released Thurdsay that stated the actress had no history of drug abuse, Monjack says that the rumors to the contrary can finally stop and the family can "get on to grieve."
"Although Brittany's autopsy report was incredibly shocking and sad to the family, to me, Sharon [Murphy, Brittany's mom] and I both shed tears," he said in a statement to RadarOnline.
"We are vindicated in that we always said Brittany never did any kind of illegal substances and that the medication she was taking was the medication found in her system and we hope now that people will understand the legacy of Brittany Murphy and the incredible body of work of Brittany Murphy."
As far as we're concerned, there's only one thing to quibble with in Monjack's entire statement.
"As the most maligned man in America, I hope people realize that they shouldn't believe anything they hear and read and I love my wife as much today as I did on the day I married her," he said.
Really? The most maligned? Wouldn't Tiger Woods, Jon Gosselin, John Mayer and too many politicians to count be happy to know that Monjack is the most maligned man in America?
But indeed it is a good day for Murphy's memory.
"I am so sad that we are living in a culture of rumor and I just wish that people would understand that sometimes out of every tragedy can come some good," Monjack continued. "I know Brittany would want to feel the vindication. She never took a drug or a drink and that's been shown. I love her family; the rumors can stop as we grieve our dead loved one and we can get on to grieve...I think it's time for everybody to realize that Brittany was just an incredibly happy, precious angel that lives on through her fans and in our hearts."
The final autopsy report confirmed that Murphy died of a combination of complications from pneumonia and anemia, as well as multiple drug intoxication.
Monjack had insisted that his wife didn't suffer from anorexia, another point of speculation, and that an autopsy would not uncover any illegal drugs in her system.
The only substances the coroner found were prescription meds or over-the-counter cold remedies.
