Richard and Mayumi Heene are ready to face a Rocky Mountain low.

The couple who wanted America to believe that their 6-year-old son, Falcon, was adrift in a runaway balloon are set to be sentenced in a Colorado court today for crafting the hoax in October.

Both parents have already pleaded guilty to various charges, Richard to attempting to influence a public servant, a felony, and Mayumi to misdemeanor false reporting to authorities.

Per their plea deal, neither Heene will face jail time for their ill-intentioned scheme, but Richard is still expected to ask for leniency for his wife for the benefit of their three young sons.

She copped to the lesser charge in order to avoid the possibility of being convicted of a felony—which could have resulted in her being deported to her native Japan.

Of course, if there were a punishment that fit this crime, Richard and Mayumi Heene would be set adrift for a few hours in a homemade weather balloon—and no media outlet would cover it!
