The California Department of Corrections confirms to E! News that the legendary music producer and convicted murderer is being relocated from the California Substance Abuse Treatment Facility & State Prison in Corcoran, his home of the past XX months, to the Pleasant Valley State Prison in Coalinga this week.
"He is scheduled to be moved and he's not the only inmate that's going to be transferred out of that prison," said Department of Corrections spokeswoman Terry Thornton.
The 69-year-old Spector, serving 19 years to life for the murder of B-movie star Lana Clarkson, requested the move after he claimed he feared for his life among the hardened criminals. He later recanted those remarks but was shipped out anyway after officials decided the prison needed more space for inmates needing outpatient mental health treatment.
"His request didn't factor into the decision to move at all. These are operational issues," added Thornton, who added that when Spector was interviewed by prison officials "he had no fears for his safety and that he was perfectly happy where he was."
The upside for Spector? He's no longer the most infamous person on the cell block.
Pleasant Valley is known for hosting a few unsavory characters, cheif among them Erik Menendez, who along with his brother Lyle was convicted of murdering their wealthy parents in 1993.
Sounds like a party.
