Paula Abdul, American Idol

Paula Abdul is done with judging amateur singing competitions. She's on to much bigger and better—and very, very different—things. Like hosting professional singing concerts.

The irreplaceable (though oh how they've tried) American Idol judge has signed on to host the VH1 Divas special Sept. 17, the image-rocked cable net's first foray back into the girl-powered concert waters since 2004.

"Hi guys! im really excited 2 announce ill b hosting this year's 'Vh1 Divas'!" Abdul tweeted yesterday. "I am so excited!!"

And for all those who balked at the previously-assembled lineup of vocal virtuosos, they may wish they had held off on casting aspersions on the diva posse until, well, now.

Cause no one says iconic, idolic diva quite like…Jordin Sparks?

American Idol's sixth season winner, avowed Paula defender and current opening act for Britney Spears, is the newest songbird to be added to the night's roster. Guess you don't even have to be a headliner to make the cut these days.

At least Abdul will feel at home during the ceremony.

Sparks is the second Idol alum on the bill and the third protégé of Simon Cowell's set to perform that night. She'll be joined by Kelly Clarkson, Leona Lewis, Adele and Miley Cyrus.
