With all the yammering Kate Major and Hailey Glassman have been doing, it's difficult to remember there was once a crowned queen to Jon Gosselin's king.

And, oh yeah, eight little princes and princesses.

Seven weeks since the announcement of her separation, Kate Gosselin sat down with Meredith Viera on the Today show this morning, finally ending her silence regarding her soon-to-be ex-husband's exploits, her own fabled dalliance and why she's still wearing that wedding ring.

"I feel like, every morning, I wake up and there's a new rumor," she says. "First of all, there is no condo [in Maryland]...I live at home with my kids. That's where I belong, that's where I will stay."

She also addressed the reason the buzz began that she might be moving to Maryland, a rumored romance with her married head of security, Steve Neild.

"There is no affair, there never has been an affair," she says. "He's one of our rotating security people. It's just another crazy rumor. It sells tabloids."

Speaking of selling tabs, the matriarch doesn't think too highly of her brother, Kevin Kreider, and his wife Jodi reaping the financial benefits of their blood relation to Jon & Kate Plus 8.

"That's probably one of the most hurtful things in all of this. When family turns on you and makes up lies and makes allegations and makes tens of thousands of dollars doing it," Kate confesses. "This is a brother I was very, very close to. And he became jealous and decided that they were going to take their fame and go elsewhere and make money essentially off of my children."

Earlier in the interview, Kate gets considerably emotional when asked why she still wears her wedding ring.

"For them," she admits, referring to her children, whom she later says will all go to college as a result of the TLC show. After catching her breath and wiping a tear or two, she continues.

"I don't want to upset them. While I've been very real and as honest as I need to be, I don't want to shock them. I've walked slowly through this with them. When they've asked questions, I've answered them."

A little later though, she admits that taking off the bauble she's worn for more than a decade is strange.

"I'm wearing the ring because, well, it's been there for 10 years," she says. "When the time is right, I will take it off. I've done a try of a day here or there."

As for Jon's ability to jump into the role of the consummate bachelor, Kate was comparatively short-winded.

"Clearly, his goals are not my goals," was the answer to one round of questioning.

"They're his decisions," she said in another. "They might not be the ones that I would make."

However, while Kate admits there are some parts of her that still loves that Jon she once knew, she feels confident their reality show success had nothing to do with the failure of their marriage.

"If you're asking if this was an end result of the show, a product of the show, I feel like it would have happened anyway. Cameras on, cameras off."
