Sure, winning American Idol is great. But, what winner Kris Allen is really looking forward to doing is getting back to being a husband.
After tonight's big win, the Conway, Arkansas-bred singer faced his wife, Katy, and said, "Ah, we can be married." He explained to reporters backstage after the finale: "We haven't been able to be married for the last nine months. She's amazing. She's just the coolest chick in the world. Hopefully, me and my wife will get to spend some more time together."
Kris also explained why he told Adam onstage in front of millions of viewers that he thought the rocker deserved to win. Read on for that and more...
On Saying Adam "Deserves" the Win: "I actually feel that. He deserves this just as much as I do. He's an amazing performer and a gifted guy. And, a really amazing guy. It was fun doing this with him. Adam does his thing and I'm going to do mine. That's what I did throughout this whole competition and I think it worked. Obviously, it worked."
On Hearing His Name Called: "I was shocked. I felt shocked almost every week that I made it. And, to be the American Idol, I'm completely shocked."
On 38 of the 100 Million Votes Coming from Arkansas: "If that's true, I really, really appreciate that. I know that Arkansas was really behind me. Arkansas is a great state. And, there's not a whole lot happens in Arkansas. So I think they were rallying behind me."
On the Highlight of Tonight: "Tonight was the coolest because, seriously, I got to sing with Queen. Wow. That was amazing."
On His Keith Urban Duet: "The country route, I don't know that I'm going to go that way. But it was really, really fun performing with him. He's great. It was a lot of fun."
On His Musical Direction: "I think it's pretty obvious that I've done a lot of the pop singer-songwriter/pop rock kind of thing and that's what I want to do."
On the Best Part of Competition: "The best thing throughout the whole competition, and I know it sounds cheesy, but we made some really good friends. I love those guys. I really do."
On Winning the Ford Focus: "I think my wife is more excited about it than I am. [But] I try to be very eco-friendly."
