Since climbing into the Billboard Top 10 in 2007—and climbing into the hearts of tweens everywhere—it’s seemed like the Jonas Brothers can do no wrong. From sold-out concert appearances to popular television spots to record-breaking sales of digital downloads, Nick, Kevin and Joe have created a Jonas juggernaut with no end in sight. Until now.
Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience has proven to be a less-than-rocking box-office experience, bring in a meager $12.7 million over last weekend, landing far behind Madea Goes to Jail, a film starring a man dressed as a middle-aged black woman. Who goes to jail.
What does it mean? Sadly, the lack of audience response may well indicate that the Jonas phenomenon is over, and that the three lovable lads can take their zesty pop tunes and purity rings and reserve a seat on the has-been bus to nowhere alongside Hanson, N’Sync and Leif Erikson.
It makes sense: In the years since the Jonas boys have risen to fame, their fickle tween followers have now grown into young adults whose tastes lean to the more mature sounds of groups like Kings of Leon, Danity Kane and Fall Out Boy. Apparently, the draw of watching the J. Bros prance about in 3-D translates into a one-dimensional yawn fest.
Is it all downhill from here? Tell us what you think.
