The engines on the Hélio Castroneves federal tax-dodging trial have been started. Jury selection began in Miami this morning.
The two-time Indy 500 winner and onetime Dancing With the Stars champ—along with sister Katiucia Castroneves and attorney Alan R. Miller—is being prosecuted for allegedly avoiding paying taxes by hiding more than $5.5 million of his income in offshore shell accounts between 1999 and 2004.
Last month, the 33-year-old Brazilian star's request to dismiss some of the charges was denied. Castroneves, who has claimed innocence in the matter thus far, is facing six total charges of tax evasion and, if convicted, could serve up to 30 years in prison.
