A sour note has been hit on American Idol, and it has nothing to do with the singers.

In case you missed it, A.I.'s resident wordsmith, Paula Abdul, reportedly told OK! earlier this week that having four judges on the Fox juggernaut "doesn't work" and "slows down the pace of the show."

Naturally, such remarks didn't exactly go over too well with Kara DioGuardi, aka the fourth judge, who, in turn, expressed being "disappointed" and "hurt" by the comments.

Now—surprise, surprise—Paula is insisting that what she said was "taken completely out of context."

"I was actually referring specifically to the use of 'guest judges' in seasons past, not Kara or this season," she told Entertainment Tonight prior to Wednesday's show. "I am thrilled to have her by my side each week on American Idol."
