With just a week until the Oscars, Slumdog Millionaire's momentum continued unchecked, picking up the top prize Sunday at the 23rd Annual American Society of Cinematographers Outstanding Achievement Awards.
Director of photography Anthony Dod Mantle is now positioned as the Academy Award favorite after beating fellow camera-wielders from The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, Revolutionary Road, The Reader and The Dark Knight.
This is the latest key pre-Oscar win for Slumdog—following victories in the past month at the Golden Globes, BAFTAs, Producers Guild, Directors Guild, Screen Actors Guild and Writers Guild—and points to potential domination come next Sunday.
On the TV side, CSI won for episodic series and CBS' Eleventh Hour won in the TV movie/miniseries/pilot category, while Dark Knight director Christopher Nolan received the Board Governors Award "for his contributions to the art of filmmaking."
