Uma Thurman and Ethan Hawke--baby on the way--are inching toward another big event: A wedding.

The First Couple of Generation X secured a marriage license Wednesday in New York, their publicist confirms. No date yet.

The only date these two have right now is a due date. Their kid--the first--is due in July.

Thurman and Hawke's impending trip to the altar was ratted out by fellow wannabe married types who spied them at a New York City marriage license bureau.

One spy had connections: She was a news assistant for NY1, a local cable news channel. She spotted the celeb couple as she (and they) waited to get their respective papers, Dave Levine, an executive producer at the station says.

Camera crews showed up too late to capture Thurman and Hawke in the act, Levine says, but others confirmed the sighting.

"It was the buzz of the marriage license bureau."

The actors, both 27, met on the set of sci-fi thriller, Gattaca.

Hawke is already back in Canada, filming the drama, Snow Falling on Cedars. Thurman will be seen next on screen in Les Miserables and this summer's, The Avengers.
