Hit the road, Mac, and don't you come back, 'cause there's a new kid in town. Now that the original Home Alone urchin has outgrown the role--and has retired from acting to work out family problems--the producers of the comic series have nabbed 7-year-old Alex D. Linz to fill Culkin's Keds.

Linz will play the lead in Home Alone 3, stepping in for Macaulay Culkin, who became a household name after starring in the first two installments. Linz made his film debut in Cable Guy with Jim Carrey and will be seen alongside George Clooney and Michelle Pfeiffer in the upcoming One Fine Day.

The producers announced this summer that they would hold open casting calls to find a new moppet for a comic franchise that has banked $450 million domestically. Let's face it, if 16-year-old Culkin were left home alone, the movie would turn out as Risky Business 2.

With Linz's fresh face, the producers promise some novel plot twists: This time, there'll be yuks galore as the unsupervised kid saves his street from troublesome neighbors.

The 20th Century Fox flick, written by John Hughes and to be directed by Raja Gosnell, begins shooting in Chicago next month.
