The mean streets of Franklin, Tenn., just got a little safer.

Mindy McCready has made good on her word to local authorities, turning herself in to Williamson County's finest to begin serving a 60-day sentence.

The troubled country songbird was found in violation of her probation on a 2004 drug charge back in June, when she was arrested for falsifying community-service records. She had been ordered to perform the community service as part of her sentence she for falsifying a prescription.

On Monday, the 32-year-old announced plans to turn herself in, asserting it was the first step in her long-promised road to recovery.

"I am working very hard to put all of this behind me as quickly as possible so I can get back to what I like to do most: sing, write songs and entertain," she said.
