The Simpsons

You can't keep a good, yellow-hued, four-fingered man down.

A little more than a week after a Venezuelan TV station pulled a daily broadcast of The Simpsons amid viewer complaints of failing to be socially responsible programming—replacing it, ironically enough, with the jiggly bastion of family-friendly viewing that is Baywatch Hawaii—the cartoon series has made it back on the air.

Televen returned Matt Groening's brainchild to the airwaves Wednesday night, this time running the series at 7 p.m. as opposed to its previous scheduling of 11 a.m., when it was apparently consumed by an impressionable and much younger demographic.

The Simpsons was yanked from the air last week after the National Telecommunications Commission reported receiving viewer complaints about the iconic program.

While the nature of the complaints were not released, and the Televen station manager said no specific Simpsons-related complaints were logged, officials did say the show was potentially in danger of violating the country's Law of Social Responsibility in Radio and Television. Apparently the early time slot risked exposing the nation's youth to "messages that go against the whole education of boys, girls and adolescents." Ay caramba!

Earlier this week, the NTC said Televen may also face a fine or even be taken off the air for up to three days, for failing to promptly remove The Simpsons from the daytime schedule after preliminary warnings.

Meanwhile, it appears as though Baywatch Hawaii, a program seemingly much more edifying to the vaunted family values imbued in Venezuela's youth, will continue to air in the morning slot.

No complaints have yet been lobbed against the Hoff-powered hit.
