Just one day after Brooke Mueller and Charlie Sheen showed up in court last week, Mueller checked into rehab for substance abuse, E! News has confirmed.
Mueller checked into the Canyon treatment center in Malibu Feb. 9, a family insider says, after Sheen was formally charged with felony and misdemeanor counts related to their now-infamous Christmas Day spat. The judge also relaxed the terms of a protective order barring Sheen from having contact with her, and the two traveled back to Los Angeles on Sheen's private plane.
No word on how long her inpatient treatment will last.
"She wants to get better for the babies," the source said, explaining Mueller chose a West Coast facility to be close to her and Sheen's twin boys, who turn 1 next month.
In the days leading up to last week's hearing, Mueller and her camp vehemently shot down reports that she was getting detox treatment in North Carolina, instead insisting she was using Two Dreams Outer Banks' "wellness" program to recover from a nasty bout of pneumonia following emergency oral surgery.
Her lawyer, Yale Galanter, labeled such rumors a "crock of crap."
This time around Galanter has declined to comment; also remaining mum are Mueller's mother, Moira Fiore, who has been a fixture at her daughter's side since Christmas, and Sheen, who is due to return to court March 15 for his arraignment.
