Courtesy NetflixLet us paint you a little picture. You've just spent all evening cooking the chicken tortilla soup from Gwyneth Paltrow's It's All Easy. You've been counting down the minutes (okay, make that hours, because honestly that cookbook isn't as easy as it claims to be—or else you're just inept in the kitchen, but this is all a topic of discussion for another day) until you can take your delicious soup creation, curl up on the couch, and watch the crap out of some Netflix.
But then the inevitable happens.
You hunker down in front of the TV, pick up the remote, and you can't find anything to watch. You're browsing, you're clicking, you're hitting that Godforsaken back button over and over.
The next thing you know, you still haven't chosen a movie and your chicken tortilla soup is cold. And soggy. And nothing that the blessed GP would ever approve of. Thanks a lot, Netflix.
Well it seems that Netflix heard your complaints (or have been watching you through your TV), because they just announced a giant revamp of the browsing system. Now, they'll show preview videos of each show as you flip through the options.
So if you scroll over Stranger Things, you'll see clips from Stranger Things. If you scroll over House of Cards, you'll see clips from House of Cards. If you scroll over 12 Dates of Christmas, you'll see clips from 12 Dates of Christmas.
The idea is that you won't have to waste time trying to read descriptions or opening up a random episode to get a feel for what the TV show or movie is like—instead, you'll get a feel for each program in real time. In this world of complete indecisiveness, and complete impatience, it's nice to have a little leg up on decision-making.
And hey, even if you never choose something to watch, you can always just watch the previews. At least while your soup is still hot.
