Jimmy Fallon's summer just bites.

The 40-year-old host of NBC's Tonight Show said on Instagram on Friday that he had chipped his tooth...an incident that would likely never have happened had he not severely injured his finger almost two months ago.

"Chipped front tooth trying to open tube of scar tissue repair gel for recovering finger injury," he wrote, alongside a selfie of himself sitting in an examination chair at a dentist's office. "Thank you Dr. Jobe DDS! #BestSummerEver Brand new Tonight Show tonight!"

Fallon had said on The Tonight Show that he injured his finger while suffering a fall at his New York City home and had to have surgery to avoid amputation. He was hospitalized at an ICU for 10 days, told he wouldn't regain feeling in his hand for two months and later fitted with a cast.

"I should say, the fall was funny. I'm a comedian so I have to fall funny," he said. "On a scale from 1 to 10, it was almost Jerry Lewis-y. I feel bad for anyone who trips, but if it was me watching me, I would laugh."
