Man Arrested in Stabbing Death of Morgan Freeman's Granddaughter E'Dena Hines

33-year-old was killed early Sunday in NYC

UPDATE (August 19): Lamar Davenport has been arraigned and remanded into custody. His next court date is set for August 21. 

An arrest has been made in the death of Morgan Freeman's granddaughter E'Dena Hineswho was killed in a stabbing in New York City early on Sunday. 

E! News confirms that police arrested Lamar Davenport, 30, for allegedly killing the 33-year-old. He has been charged with second-degree-murder. 

An NYPD rep told E! News on Sunday that Hines was found with multiple stab wounds on her torso on a street in Harlem and taken to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. A 30-year-old man was detained at the scene and later taken to another medical center.

The 78-year-old actor, who was not related to Hines by blood, mourned his granddaughter's death in a statement released on Sunday.

"The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer," the Lucy star said. "Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace."

Freeman also posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, thanking his fans for support in the wake of the tragedy. 

"I want to acknowledge the tremendous outpouring of love and support my family has received regarding the tragic and senseless passing of my granddaughter Edena Hines," he wrote. "Thank you from the bottom of my heart."

Hines was the granddaughter of Freeman's first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, whom he divorced in 1979. The actor brought Hines with him to the Golden Globe Awards in 2005.

The 30-year-old shared her grandfather's passion for acting and had a small role in the 2015 drama 5 Flights Up, which stars Freeman and Diane Keeton. According to her website, she was a former student of New York University's Graduate Acting Program and later taught under-exposed youth in her native Memphis, Tennessee.
