Michael Chiklis is rejoining the police force, but he's not Vic Mackey anymore.

E! News has confirmed that the Shield and American Horror Story: Freak Show star is officially joining Gotham for season two, and he seems to be sticking around for a while.

Chiklis joins as a series regular and will play Captain Nathaniel Barnes who isn't afraid of making enemies of anyone at all when he takes control of the GCPD.

This might sound like a guy who wouldn't put up with Gordon's (Ben McKenzie) occasionally unorthodox law enforcement methods, but according to TV Line, who first reported the casting, Barnes will be a great ally and mentor to Gordon, at least at first.

Producers teased at the show's Comic-Con panel earlier this month that season 2 would be all about the "rise of the villains," which will see Gotham "decline into chaos." This means that we'll be getting lots of new villains and new heroes, and it kind of sounds like Barnes is both.

Gotham also made quite the impression during its portion of the DC TV panel at Comic Con when its Joker, Cameron Monaghan, interrupted the fan q&a to laugh maniacally and taunt Ben McKenzie, who played along perfectly in character as Jim Gordon. Monaghan ended his appearance in the arms of security, who had to carry him out.

Sounds like season two is going to be quite a party when it returns to Fox this fall.
