Watch: Did Rachel McAdams Touch Jake Gyllenhaal's Ripped Abs?

It's no secret that Jake Gyllenhaal got ridiculously, insanely ripped for his role as a boxer in the new movie Southpaw. But even with all those sexy, chiseled muscles, co-star Rachel McAdams wouldn't lay a finger on his bulging biceps or six-pack.

Why's that?

"He was always greased up and covered in blood so it was like yucky abs!" the 36-year-old actress told E! News exclusively at their Southpaw junket (LOL). "No I'm kidding. He looked amazing. He for sure looked amazing. I mean hats off to him for not just the physical transformation but the emotional, psychological transformation too."

McAdams said she tried a bit of boxing to see what it was like, but couldn't do anything near what Gyllenhaal pulls off in the film.

"It was all him, there was no stunt double. And boxing's hard," she gushed. "It's so difficult."

Gyllenhaal said he trained "five hours a day" for months and months. Despite giving his all physically, he didn't have to abide by any strict diet. "

There wasn't a lot of deprivation but when I first started training, [director] Antoine [Fuqua] I ate a lot of chicken wings and then they took the chicken wings away. That was the extent of it," Gyllenhaal joked to E! News. "I eat relatively healthy anyway but when you train that much, you can kind of eat what you want. A lot of Chipotle!"
