Scandal's got a new man. Cornelius Smith Jr. will be a series regular when the ABC drama starring Kerry Washington returns this fall, E! News has confirmed.

Smith appeared as Marcus Walker in two season four episodes, making his first appearance in the buzzy "The Lawn Chair" episode. When he popped up again, he sought Olivia Pope's help after he discovered his girlfriend dead. That girlfriend was also the wife of the mayor he was running against. Olivia struck a deal with the Washington, DC mayor that would secure him the job, but he backed out and named the mayor for his involvement in the murder.

Will he be a new Gladiator for Olivia? Or a new love interest? The two definitely had chemistry...Details on Smith's return are being kept under wraps.

Look for more Portia de Rossi in Scandal season five too! She's been made as series regular.

Smith's other TV credits include Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Whitney (the Lifetime movie not the sitcom), Forever, All My Children and Major Crimes.

TVLine first reported Smith's promotion.

Scandal returns Thursday, Sept. 24 at 9 p.m. on ABC.
