Two new names just joined True Detective season two!

Lolita Davidovich and James Frain have been cast in recurring roles for the sophomore outing of HBO's critically-acclaimed hit drama, joining previously reported season two stars Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Taylor Kitsch. Rachel McAdams is rumored to be near a deal to play the fourth and final lead role.

Season two revolves around three police officers and a career criminal who must navigate a web of conspiracy in the aftermath of a murder.

True Detective's second season will also feature Black Box alum Kelly Reilly in a series regular role, as well as Almost Human's Michael Irby, Suits star Abigail Spencer and The Tomorrow People's Leven Rambin in recurring roles.

Vaughn will play Frank Semyon, a career criminal struggling to move in a legit direction. Farrell will play Ray Velcoro, a "compromised detective." Kitsch is set to play a detective, and McAdams, if cast, will play the third detective. Reilly's character is described as the "self-possessed Morgan," while Irby will play McAdams' partner, Elvis. Rambin will play a beautiful woman with a history of drug problems, and Spencer will portray the survivor of a sexual attack.

So who will newcomers Davidovich and Frain play? Davidovich (who will also recur on Fox's midseason drama Backstrom) will play Kitsch's mother Nancy Simpson, a former showgirl continually sucking on cigarettes and margaritas as she mourns the loss of male sexual attention. What little of her hopes remain she has transferred onto her adult son, who, in her eyes, is God's gift to women. Intruders star Frain, who had a significant role on HBO's True Blood, will play Jeff Hunt, a ruthless police lieutenant.

Justin Lin, who recently helmed the Scorpion pilot, will direct the first two episodes of the eight-episode second season, written by creator Nic Pizzolatto. Production will begin later this fall in California.

Deadline first reported this casting news.
