UPDATE: The FBI and Apple, which operates the online file storage service iCloud, have responded to the nude photo leak.
Naked and scantily-clad pictures of who appears to be Jennifer Lawrence, as well as other racy pics resembling other celebrities, surfaced online on Sunday during Labor Day Weekend, sending Twitter and Reddit users into a frenzy and spurring speculation about another celebrity hacking case.
Several of the photos show the various hairstyles the 24-year-old Hunger Games and X-Men actress has sported over the past three years.
"This is a flagrant violation of privacy," Lawrence's rep told E! News in a statement on Sunday. "The authorities have been contacted and will prosecute anyone who posts the stolen photos of Jennifer Lawrence."
Another photo showing Mary Elizabeth Winstead naked was also posted. The actress responded to the leak on Twitter.
To those of you looking at photos I took with my husband years ago in the privacy of our home, hope you feel great about yourselves.? Mary E. Winstead (@M_E_Winstead) August 31, 2014
Knowing those photos were deleted long ago, I can only imagine the creepy effort that went into this. Feeling for everyone who got hacked.? Mary E. Winstead (@M_E_Winstead) August 31, 2014
Another picture showing a woman who looks like Kate Upton covering her bare chest, as well as naked or other scantily-clad pictures of women resembling Kirsten Dunst, Krysten Ritter, Teresa Palmer, Becca Tobin and soccer star Hope Solo were also circulated online on Sunday. The actresses have not commented and it is unclear if any of the pictures are authentic.
Many celebrities have been victims of nude photo leaks. In late 2012, a man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for hacking into the online accounts of Scarlett Johansson and Mila Kunis and posting their private pictures online.
On Monday, Upton's lawyer issued a statement about the leak.
