Leave it to Jon Stewart to verbalize what most of us are probably thinking about the way several cable news outlets have been covering the search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370.
During Monday's The Daily Show, the program's host couldn't help but take a jab—make that several jabs—at the likes of CNN, Fox News and MSNBC.
With regards to CNN, for instance, Stewart showed a clip of Anderson Cooper giving a brief news update on the missing plane, after which Stewart remarked that the cable channel had about a minute of good coverage there, "until they realized, 'Oh s--t, we've got 23 hours and 59 minutes left to fill. F--k it, let's go nuts!'"
Stewart continued, "And they did, with everything in their bag of tricks. Giant floor maps! Big fake airplanes! Little fake airplanes! Holographic airplanes!"
He later pointed out that "CNN's missing airline obsession not only doubled its primetime ratings, it itself became news, because the only thing less likely than an airplane disappearing out of the sky is CNN's ratings doubling."
Stewart also took a few digs at Fox News' coverage as well (and stating that its younger viewers "are just coming into the room to make sure their parents are still breathing") before commenting on Ed Schultz's discussion of a "high-tech highjack...somewhere in the jungle" over at MSNBC.
