It's only a brief sneak peek, but we'll take what we can get.

Director Sam Mendes is giving James Bond fans an early glimpse into the making of Skyfall, the latest 007 adventure that he is helming, with a first-ever video blog from the set.

Hear what attracted him to the job and how star Daniel Craig stacks up against original Bond Sean Connery.

"The roots of me doing this Bond movie start way before anybody approached me, because I, like everybody else, have my own personal relationship with Bond, which began when I suppose when I was 9 or 10 years old," Mendes says in the video, which consists mainly of footage of him behind the camera.

The filmmaker came aboard the project—the 23rd installment in the five-decades-and-counting spy series—after seeing what fellow director Martin Campbell did with 2006's Casino Royale and what Craig brought to that movie in his first outing as the martini-swilling secret agent.

"I felt like, here was a real man and a real situation again, and it reminded me of the way I felt when I watched the Sean Connery movies," he added.

Audiences will get to see Mendes' take on the franchise when Skyfall arrives in theaters Nov. 7.
