Shawn Johnson isn't doing backflips—at least not yet.

The Florida man accused of stalking the Olympic gold medalist while she was making her disco ball-winning run on ABC's Dancing With the Stars last spring has pleaded not guilty plea by reason of insanity.

Robert O'Ryan entered his plea as his nonjury trial got rolling today in Los Angeles. The 36-year-old faces one count of felony stalking and two misdemeanor counts of carrying a loaded firearm  after he was nabbed hopping a fence outside the DWTS studio lot in March 2009 in an bid to get up close and way too personal with Johnson.

The 18-year-old gymnast has since taken out a restraining order against O'Ryan and for apparent good reason. Along with love letters professing his undying devotion to Johnson, police recovered two loaded guns, duct tape  and zip ties in his car—what authorities labeled a "kidnapping kit."

If convicted, O'Ryan could get up to four years in prison. However should the judge find him insane, he could end up being remanded to a state mental hospital.
