Johnny Depp is a man of few words. "Hi" is apparently all that needs to be said to make his fans go berzerk.

The scruffy star lingered a few minutes backstage and then seemingly gave Alice in Wonderland aficionados the thrill of their lives by appearing onstage with costars Anne Hathaway, Helena Bonham Carter, Michael Sheen, Crispin Glover and Mia Wasikowska at the AIW Great Big Ultimate Fan Event on Friday in Hollywood.

Sure, that's a lot of star power, but Johnny (who'd been a maybe up until the day of) easily got the loudest applause.

Unfortunately, director Tim Burton and his kooky cast left the stage after only a few minutes of exposure (Depp was introduced last and spent about 30 seconds in front of the flashbulbs), so the reigning Sexiest Man Alive didn't get to do much besides show his pretty face and go. But he meant well...

The Alice cast took the stage after performances by some of the bands who recorded tunes for the After Alice companion soundtrack, including 3OH!3, Never Shout Never, Metro Station and Kerli.

Avril Lavigne heads up the album with the single "Alice."

Alice in Wonderland finally opens, in 3-D at some venues, on March 5.

Alice in Wonderland is just around the corner, but it still qualifies as one of the Movies From the Future! we can't wait to see.
