Ellen DeGeneres may have one thing less to worry about.

The newest American Idol judge reportedly has said she'd leave the show if Howard Stern took over Simon Cowell's seat at the table next season. And while the Shock Jock's supposed consideration for the gig is far from off the table, one person thinks a big personality conflict may not be so definite.

"I don't know [if they'd clash]," Howard's wife, Beth Ostrosky, tells E! News at the Michael Kors show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.

She claims she'll do what she can to make sure it doesn't happen.

"I'll smooth it over," she promises. "I'm a big Ellen fan."

The couple watches the show together, so Beth gets a weekly preview of how things might go down were Fox to pony up the dough and hire the King of All Media.

"I get the honor of sitting next to him watching American Idol every week, and I've got to say, it's hysterical, but he's also brutally honest, so I think America would love him as a judge. I really do," she says.

The question remains—would he be more or less harsh than snarky Simon himself?

"[Howard] is honest, so if he has to be critical and if that turns out seeming mean, then I guess he can be mean," she admits. "But he also is a big cheerleader, too, for a lot of the contestants."

While Beth couldn't speak to the reality of Howard's consideration of the idea, she's decidedly excited about the possibility of having to spend time in Los Angeles.

"I love L.A.," she says. "I love sunshine—and get me out of this winter cold!"
