George Takei just beamed up a marriage license.

The Star Trek alum and longtime partner Brad Altman were among the first same-sex couples to obtain licenses in West Hollywood this morning.

"I think it's a glorious California morning to make history," the erstwhile Sulu said. "Congratulations to all of us: May equality live long and prosper."

The 71-year-old actor and his 54-year-old partner have been together for 21 years. Takei said the couple will wed on Sept. 14.

Their wedding license is good for 90 days.

Today was the first full day licenses were issued to homosexual couples in accordance with the California Supreme Court's legalization of gay marriage last month. Takei is the first celebrity to take the plunge; Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi are among those expected to follow suit.

"It's going to be the only day like this in our lives," Takei told the throng of press, fans and supporters upon receiving the document. "And it is the only day like this in the history of America."
