You know what's even better than an on-screen romance? An on-screen love triangle! After all, what girl doesn't want two gorgeous men fighting over her affection?

In the upcoming series The Royals, which stars Elizabeth Hurley as the fictional queen of modern-day England, one of the exciting love triangles we'll get to see is with Queen Helena's playboy son Prince Liam (William Moseley), who is torn between his new love interest, Ophelia (Merrit Patterson) and then sudden return of his former flame, Gemma (Sophie Colquhoun).

Penned by One Tree Hill creator Mark Schwahn, The Royals is centered around the fascinating (and chaotic) lives of a fictional British monarchy, and will show what really goes on behind palace gates. Just 'cause they're royalty doesn't mean they don't have drama...

And in case you haven't watched some of the shows below or are saving your Friends marathon for an upcoming weekend, just a warning that there are a few spoilers below...

13. Beverly Hills, 90210

Throwback to one of the most epic '90s TV shows of all time!

Dylan (Luke Perry) was the resident bad boy hottie at Beverly Hills High School who was dating Brenda (Shannen Doherty), but while she spent a summer abroad in Paris, Dylan's bad boy side came out when he hooked up with Brenda's BFF Kelly (Jennie Garth)!

Drama in the 9-0-2-1-0! Looks like it wasn't a smooth ride off into the sunset on Dylan's motorcycle for either of these ladies!

FOX

12. Grey's Anatomy

This series is living proof why you never want to date someone you work with!

Aside from the fact that it's awkward when you keep breaking up and getting back together (with your boss, no less), it's even more annoying when your love interest's ex-wife is added to the mix!

As was the case with Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), a surgical intern who had a one night stand with Derek aka "McDreamy" (Patrick Demsey), which led to a relationship, which led to a breakup, followed by many more breakups, along with his ex-wife Addison (Kate Walsh), another surgeon who decided she wanted to work on their marriage!

With all the relationship drama that went on, how on earth did they find time to operate on patients and save lives?

11. One Tree Hill

This oldie-but-goodie was another fan favorite and something that all of us could relate to: 20-somethings trying to figure life out while dealing with loss, loss, and everything in-between.

Penned by The Royals' creator Mark Schwahn, we knew trouble was brewing when Tree Hill High School cheer captain Brooke (Sophia Bush) sets her eyes on the new guy, Lucas (Chad Michael Murray). But instead of returning her affection, Lucas went for Brooke's bestie Peyton (Hilarie Burton). Awkward...

But things got cray when Peyton and Lucas broke up, then Brooke and Lucas got together, then Lucas and Peyton hooked up in secret again behind Brooke's back. The love triangle spread out over a really long time and finally ended 9 seasons later.

Oh, high school romance...

The WB/Timothy White

10. Scandal

The name alone says it all! Just because Olivia Pope (Kerry Washington) is a professional political crisis manager doesn't mean that her life is free of scandal. Far from it, in fact!

In addition to getting involved with Fitz, the married President of the United States (Tony Goldwyn), Olivia also had a romance with Jake (Scott Foley), the head of mysterious force B-613. In another twist, Jake was originally hired by Fitz to spy on Olivia!

So scandalous...

ABC

9. How I Met Your Mother

We were all dying to know how Ted (Josh Radnor) met his future wife, and throughout the multiple seasons of the show, we kept on wondering who it could be! Would he end up with gal pal Robin (Cobie Smulders), who eventually started dating his womanizing buddy Barney (Neil Patrick Harris)?

After a series of twists and turns (not to mention a whole lot of women), we ultimately found out that Robin wasn't the future Mrs. Ted Mosby, not to mention that she married Barney (gasp), but as fate would have it, Ted and Robin made their way back to each other in the most unexpected way.

8. Gossip Girl

What happens when you set a bunch of privileged prep schoolers loose on Manhattan's Upper East Side? Everything...

Rich girl Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) was always on-and-off with hot lacrosse player Nate Archibald (Chase Crawford), before moving onto Dan Humprey (Penn Badgley), the brooding son of a rockstar. After going back and forth between the two, we're happy to say that Serena made her choice and ultimately married Dan, years later.

Now that's a happy ending!

CW

7. Lost

Well, the title says it all. Viewers were constantly "lost" while trying to figure out just what the heck was going on (why were they on the island?), and while we waited anxiously for 6 seasons to get our answer, in the meantime what's one to do while stranded on an island with other sexy strangers? Have an island fling!

Kate (Evangeline Lilly) was the tough chick survivor who ended up getting romantically involved with Jack (Matthew Fox), the good-guy surgeon, as well as Sawyer (Josh Holloway), the sexy Southerner!

She ultimately wound up with Jack (See? Nice guys don't always finish last!), but we certainly enjoyed the intimate cage romp between Kate and Sawyer while it lasted!

ABC/MARIO PEREZ

6. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

We'd like to take a moment to thank Buffy the Vampire Slayer for starting the pioneer movement of vampire romances!

Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) was the kick-ass heroine of Sunnydale who ironically, ended up hooking up with good vampire Angel (David Boreanz) and not-so-good-but-oh-so-sexy vampire Spike (James Marsters).

While Buffy didn't end up getting married and having half-vampire babies with either of them (unlike Twilight's Bella), the show certainly kept us entertained with its battle between good and evil, in both love and life!

UPN

5. Orange Is the New Black

Boy loves girl. Girl loves boy. Girl loves girl. And so it goes.

Inmate Piper (Taylor Schilling) has certainly led a crazy life! After having an exciting relationship with drug smuggler Alex (Laura Prepon), Piper decided to quit trafficking drugs and moved on to meet Larry (Jason Biggs), the sweet guy that she ended up having a relationship with.

But her drug trafficking past caught up to her, and Piper was sent off to prison where, lo-and-behold, she ran into Alex, sparking the beginning of a wild love triangle!

It's way too small of a world, if you ask us...

Jill Greenberg for Netflix

4. Vampire Diaries

Yes, it's another show about vampires, but trust us, the Damon-Elena-Stefan love triangle was worth it!

As if Katherine (Nina Dobrev) wasn't lucky enough to have the hot Salvatore brothers, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) fighting over her love in 1864, a century-and-a-half later the brothers wee fighting again—over her doppelganger!

They say blood is thicker than water, but in this case, we're not so certain...

3. Friends

Perhaps the most classic TV show of all time! When a group of friends live in the same apartment complex together, anything (and we many anything) could happen!

We're no strangers to the on-off relationship that went on for a decade between the sweet-but-clueless Ross (David Schwimmer) and the spoiled-rich-girl-turned-independent-working-woman Rachel (Jennifer Aniston), but the show threw a wrench at us when Ross's buddy Joey (Matt LeBlanc) also fell in love with Rachel!

Don't get us wrong, we love Joey and all, but we were super glad when the two called it quits and Rachel ended up with her one true love, Ross!

NBC

2. Sex and the City

If we could dedicate one song to Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), it would definitely be Beyoncé's "Single Ladies", because she waited around for Mr. Big (Chris Noth) for what seemed like an eternity! More power to you, girl!

She may have been a successful writer and author livin' the high life in NYC, but if there was one thing that Carrie didn't have a handle on, it was her love life! We felt our hearts break (literally) the countless times that she ended things with manly-man Aidan (John Corbett), only to go running back into the arms of the much older playboy Big, who seemed to have every supermodel on speed dial!

But Carrie eventually did get to change her last name to Big (finally), so it wasn't a total waste...

Craig Blankenhorn/HBO

1. True Blood

Oh, Sookie...we couldn't help loving and hating her at the same time. But it was only because Anna Paquin's character had every hot guy on the show throwing himself at her and she just couldn't make up her damn mind!

Of the numerous love triangles on True Blood (most involving Sookie, of course), the most memorable and epic one involved Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) and Bill (Stephen Moyer) as age-old rival vampires who battled it out for the fairy girl's affections.

Sadly, she didn't end up with either of them, but the series certainly gave us a good run and kept us on the edge of our seats!
