Tusk, tusk, tusk. In light of movies that combine amazing animation and a sharp story line (see: Monsters, Inc., Shrek) it's a mammoth task to make a play in the same arena. And Ice Age offers half of what you want out of a movie like this. The tale of a prehistoric motley crew--a woolly mammoth (Ray Romano), a sloth (John Leguizamo) and a sabertooth tiger (Denis Leary)--who rescue a lost human baby is like a series of funny bits rather than an ice-solid story.
And there is some junk in this trunk: no female leads and the blurry good-guy-bad-guy lines might confuse some little beasts and rub their den mothers the wrong way. The film's saving grace, though, comes from the individual charm of this distinct voicecast, who end up saving the day and teaching us age-old lessons in friendship.
