Chelsea Altman plays an actress frustrated with her stalled career. Just when she's about to pack it in and move to Mexico with fiancé Demián Bichir, she lands a role on the daytime drama Heartbreak Hospital and her life begins to get as sudsy as the show. She quarrels with Bichir, dodges the advances of her leading man and rattles a delusional neighbor who confuses soaps with real life.
You, too, might get confused, as this derivative flick cops too much from much-better films like Tootsie, Nurse Betty and Soapdish. Patricia Clarkson--great as dodgy Greta in High Art--is wasted here, as is the rest of the capable cast. With only one life to live, who needs Heartbreak like this?
