Looking for a strip club with no minimum, no tipping and no pasties? Stop in to the Blue Iguana and grab a peek at this slice-of-life flick which follows five strippers on and off the pole. As Hollywood actresses like Daryl Hannah and Jennifer Tilly sell their, um, assets, director Michael Radford (Il Postino) fashions a beautifully downbeat view of the dancers and their coworkers' as they spiral lower and lower.
There are as many loose ends as loose women in this pleasure pit, and the whole place is haunted by hunky hitman Vladimir Mashkov lurking ominously at the motel next door. The intertwining stories contort this way and that--but always believably. Hannah is luminous as the sweetly deranged star of this dive, Tilly rages with a head full of demons and Sandra Oh (from TV's Arli$$) shines darkly in an adroit, suitably understated turn as a dancer with a poetry jones.
