Relax sci-fi junkies, Blade 2 is just as sharp as the first. This time around, the titular vampire-hunting Wesley Snipes and some Blade-hunting vampires join together to fight some vampire-hunting vampires. Got it? Whatever. After a flurry of stylized Hong Kong action, comic book sensibilities and S&M garb, (almost) everyone is a pile of vampy dust.
Snipes keeps the cheesy one-liners to a minimum and the fighting fresh. (He even includes some WWF-ish moves that would make the Rock raise an eyebrow.) Creepmeister and acclaimed Mexican director Guillermo del Toro (The Devil's Backbone) is a great addition to the film franchise and keeps the vibe dark while amping up the freaks and frights with some Clive Barker-esque flesh play. Definitely a cut above.
