Wanna know how to make 80 minutes magically feel like five hours? Just sit through this dragging adaptation of the little-known Herman Melville novella Bartleby the Scrivener. Actor-weirdo Crispin Glover plays the titular guy, who takes a job in a small public-records office and disrupts its balance when he refuses to do work by simply telling his boss "I would prefer not to.
" Bartleby drives his coworkers and bossman mad by standing around a lot (looking as bored as the audience) and eventually moving into the office. But we don't really know why. Or care. Glover does a lot of staring into space as the actors around him--including Joe "hey, what happened to him?" Piscopo--come off like they're in a high school play. So, when your friends ask if you want to see this flick, simply reply...well, we think you know that answer.
