Sorry Alias fans, this isn't a spinoff of the hit TV show featuring Syd's sister. Instead it's an enticing and sometimes uncomfortably funny French import that questions right and wrong and examines a serious case of desperation. After the accidental death of her son, Sandrine Kiberlain's overbearing, often crazy mom (icy-perfect Nicole Garcia) does what any fine, overbearing, often crazy mom would do: pluck her daughter a new look-alike kid out of a crowd.
At first, Kiberlain rejects the notion, but eventually plays along and hides the napped tyke from his real mother and troublemaking boyfriend. Sometimes scary, sometimes sad and always thought provoking, this leisurely tale will keep you questioning who's the good guy as Kiberlain's situation comes to a head--all the signs of a fine foreign film. For art-house fans, this one's a good Betty.
