It won't take you long to warm up to this charming Boy. Within minutes, Hugh Grant starts snapping off wry "wisdom" about sex and the single guy in the big city of London. Of course, it takes Grant's character longer to warm up to the nerdy and awkward kid (Nicholas Hoult) who befriends him and shows Grant that there's more to life than lounging around and shagging single moms.
Based on High Fidelity author Nick Hornby's book and given a shot of the Weitz stuff by American Pie directors Chris and Paul Weitz, Boy doesn't give in to the kind of sappy sentimentality most films like to lap up and barf out. Instead, this solid, smart comedy remains calm, classy and funny, as Grant gives the ladies another reason to fall for him. Good Boy.
