Our true crime obsession officially continues.
With help from Oxygen's latest Snapped special, we're about to take a deep dive into the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the brothers who were convicted of murdering their parents, Jose and Kitty, with a shotgun in 1989. The question of the special is not so much whether the brothers committed the crime, but why.
The special, Snapped: Notorious - The Menendez Brothers, will reexamine the 27 year-old case and use new interviews with various experts to attempt to determine whether Lyle and Erik were monsters or victims of parental abuse.
Thanks to the exclusive clip above, you can get a little introduction to the special, and the case that gripped the nation in 1990.
Snapped will feature interviews with former Beverly Hills police captain Russ Olson, crime writer Diane Fanning, Forensic Psychiatrist Dr. William Vicary, and even the brothers' former friends, and Erik's former girlfriend, among others.
Snapped will take an "unflinching look" at the case, including the details of the crime, the brothers' entitled upbringing, their controversial family life, prison marriages, sex scandals, and their status as overnight sensations, all thanks to their horrific crime.
Oxygen also promises that the special will reveal a "surprise final twist" that could shed some new light on the case, but we'll have to wait until Sunday to find out what that twist is.
Make sure to watch E! News tonight at 7 and 11 p.m. to learn more about TV's recent obsession with true crime cases.
Snapped: Notorious - The Menendez Brothers airs Sunday, October 2nd at 9 p.m. on Oxygen.
