Amy Winehouse, Nick Jonas & More Performers Who Have Never Won an MTV Video Music Award

It's an honor to be nominated, but some of these artists can't even claim that!

It's an honor to be nominated, but everyone wants to win.

The MTV Video Music Awards are no different, regardless of what the stars say. Funnily enough, though, there have been some hugely talented performers—Grammy winners, even!—who have never won an MTV VMA of their own.

Case in point? The late Amy Winehouse. She performed "Rehab" live at the 2007 MTV VMAs and was nominated in three different categories ("Rehab" was up of Video of the Year and Winehouse was up for Female Artist of the Year and Best New Artist), but she didn't win any Video Music Awards.

Another artist with multiple Grammy Awards who has yet to nab an MTV VMA all their own? Sam Smith. The "Stay With Me" singer has been nominated twice, though, and performed at the 2014 MTV VMAs.

Smith's not the only talented singer to be snubbed; Kesha has been nominated for four MTV VMAs (three in 2010 and one in 2014) but has yet to win one.

Nick Jonas, who was not nominated for a 2016 MTV VMA but will still be performing at the show on Sunday, hasn't won one yet either. His "Chains" music video was nominated in 2015, and the Jonas Brothers scored two nods in 2008, but there's still no VMA on this JoBro's shelf (although he should get an honorary one for being a good sport, at the very least).

Carly Rae Jepsen has been nominated twice, but never nabbed a VMA, and although one of Adele's videos has won for its effects ("Rolling in the Deep" took home Best Editing, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography in 2011), the singer herself has yet to win.

Enrique Iglesias has been nominated six times but never won. Jessica Simpson's "With You" music video was up for two MTV VMAs in 2004, but she's yet to win. Her ex-husband Nick Lachey hasn't either, although his "What's Left of Me" video was nominated in 2006. 98 Degrees has zero nods to their name.

Carrie Underwood was up for Artist to Watch in 2007, but lost to Gym Class Heroes. Country music stars haven't gotten a lot of recognition when it comes to MTV VMAs, though—Blake Shelton, Brad Paisley, Luke Bryan and Miranda Lambert have never felt the love from the MTV VMAs.

Meghan Trainor also has never been nominated for an MTV VMA, but she's in good company; Barbra Streisand has zero nods as well, and while Cher was nominated back in 1988 and again in 1999, she's yet to win an MTV VMA herself.

Who will win this year? Find out when the 2016 MTV VMAs air this Sunday at 9 p.m. on MTV.
