Watch: Michael Keaton Finally Gets a Walk of Fame Star

Stop playing with our hearts, Michael Keaton

Speculation over whether or not a Beetlejuice sequel would ever hit theaters has circulated for years, but the latest development regarding the 1988 flick doesn't sound too promising. Keaton caught up with E! News on the project's current status at the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday where he was being recognized with his very own star.

When conversation turned to a second installment, Keaton offered this: "I don't know. People know more about than I do."

Wait, what? Last time we checked, Winona Ryder, Tim Burton and Keaton himself had details on the upcoming film.

Michael's co-star in the film has publicly discussed a Beetlejuice sequel on two occasions, once in early 2015 and later that same year. Ryder told Seth Meyers, "I think I can confirm it, because Tim Burton did this interview—like, it was very hush hush, top secret... and then he was doing some press for Big Eyes and he did an on-camera interview and he said, 'Oh yeah, we're doing it and Winona's going to be in it,' and I was like [shocked face]."

Burton echoed Ryder's excitement, with the famed director telling IGN, "There's only one Beetlejuice, and that's Michael. There is a script, and I would love to work with him again. I think there is now a better chance than ever… I miss that character. There's something that's cathartic and amazing about it. I think it's closer than ever."

As for the Golden Globe winners previous statements regarding his participation? "I've e-mailed Tim a couple of times," he told MTV News. "Talked to the writer a couple of times, but all really, really preliminary stuff. I always said that's the one thing I'd like to do again, if I ever did anything again."

Fingers crossed Keaton's latest confession means there's just been a lull in production as opposed to an entire kibosh on the film.
