Harry How/Getty ImagesOver the years, I've fielded a lot of annoying questions about Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
What's the deal with Kim and Kanye? Are they still together? Are they a real couple? What do they have in common?
My answer has always been a variation of the same: Kim and Kanye are the perfect couple. They were meant to be. They're about as real as it gets. They're soul mates.
And now, I rest my case. Kim and Kanye, having each other's back since forever.
Kim sent a shockwave through social media Sunday night when she posted to her Snapchat the recording of a conversation Kanye had with Taylor Swift about his song "Famous"—proving that Kanye did talk to Taylor about the tune beforehand and that, at least as far as the recording revealed, Taylor didn't voice any concerns about the song's message, as she had claimed she did.
The Twitterverse at first erupted in applause for Kim, dumping an unprecedented amount of haterade on Taylor for seemingly being caught in a lie. Then various celebs started taking sides, until there was an all-out virtual war going on into the wee hours. Overall it just proved that no celebrity is immune when it comes to being vulnerable to an online tear-down. Taylor, meanwhile, maintains that Kanye never ran the "I made that bitch famous" line by her, the one she took him to task for at the Grammys.
But in addition to Kim's masterful use of Snapchat to start a Twitter party, another big takeaway from Kim's Game of Thrones-caliber checkmate was just how much Kim loves her husband and how she just went to bat for him so hard, knowing that her move could have backfired.
Instead, it's just another example on the ever-growing list of moments in which Kim or Kanye had the other's back and was not in the least bit shy about insisting, "This is the way it is," haters be damned.
And Kimye have been the embodiment of #relationshipgoals from the start—and not just because he had a wall of roses set up for her on Mother's Day, or planted a 15-carat ring on her finger when he proposed. Everyone on this planet would be lucky to find someone who gets him or her as much as Kim and Kanye get each other.
He loved her from afar, always offering his friendship, and, once she was available, she realized that everything she'd been looking for was right there—and vice versa.
"She gave me everything," Kanye told BBC Radio in 2013 about his then-girlfriend. "She gave me a family. She gave me a support system."
Moreover, "she was in a powerful enough situation where she could love me without asking me for money, which is really hard for me to find."
That was hard for Kim to find too, someone both into the idea of a close-knit family such as hers who was also successful and who understood the demands of celebrity. And not just the demands, but the appeal of celebrity as well.
Neither Kim nor Kanye has ever faulted the other for being who they are, and wife and husband have been each other's most ardent champions.
"I have a love-hate relationship with the paparazzi but actually I love them because they empower us over, ya know?," Kanye told The Breakfast Club on Power 105 toward the end of 2013. "They are empowering us over Vanity Fair that want to say that Kate Upton is Marilyn Monroe. Kate Upton ain't Marilyn Monroe. Kim is Marilyn Monroe, you know that. She was controversial. She [is] controversial."
And Kanye, who takes pride in leading the controversy parade from time to time (be it in interviews, via Twitter, on his albums or from the runway), couldn't have sounded prouder of the woman who would soon be his wife—they just celebrated two years of marriage this past May—and the mother of his two children.
Kanye has also called Kim "the most beautiful woman of all time," telling Hot 97's Angie Martinez, "I'm talkin', like, arguably of human existence—the top 10 of human existence." (He has also suggested that Michelle Obama has nothing on Kim as far as trendsetting prowess and that his lady deserves a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.)
But perhaps in what is most telling, as far as how right for each other they are, Kanye has been outspoken about Kim helping him feel like a better person.
"She would make me feel like I was here for a reason and I had something to say, and just support me through that," he divulged to Ellen DeGeneres. "It's incredible to have a woman like that, that you know is not using you for money. I just have to word it like that because once you become like a multi-millionaire there's a certain type of women out there that they go for that, and they'll put on the whole act and everything. But to have someone that's, you know, has their own s--t. And her personality is so calming. And I don't know if that's the way people would describe my personality, so..."
Consider Kim hooked, though, since obviously she brings out the best in Kanye.
"He really is the most romantic, sweetest person I've ever met in my entire life," Kim raved to E! News about her fiancé a couple months after his epic marriage proposal at AT&T Park in San Francisco. She hasn't been quite as candid as Kanye has over the years, leaving the grand pronouncements about their connection to her husband, but she gets the point across just fine.
As she told Cosmopolitan in 2013, "I have this best friend who understands me and helps me through all my tough experiences, and vice versa, you know? It just feels like this is it for me."
"I used to think, Well, can you really have it all? The truth, the excitement, and the passion? Now I know you can."
She knew then and, if for some reason you didn't know before, let there be no doubt about it now.
