The Met Gala is all about glitz and glamour. Pomp and circumstance. Class and style.

But it's also about fun.

That's because, as refined as the premise may be—a charity ball benefiting New York City's fanciest museum, organized by America's fanciest magazine—it's still attended by wild and wacky celebrities who are fresh off marathon stints with their glam squads and endless bottles of champagne. Last time we checked, that was a recipe ripe for hijinks.

And while there are certainly some rather, er, uptight moments as fashion's biggest names enter the Metropolitan Museum of Art, there's also a whole lot of fun to be had. Thank Jennifer Lawrence if you will, but stars love to let loose on the first Monday in May. That's one way to beat those Sunday scaries, right? In the spirit of bringing a bit of quirk to this most special soirée, let's look back at some of our favorite moments in year's past that had nothing to do with designer labels. Starting with this year's technology-themed egresses, of course.
