The two have welcomed their first child together, a baby boy, after years of struggling to conceive. They announced on Womanista, Cassie's women's lifestyle website, that she gave birth to son Ward Charles Kelley on Thursday at 10:20 a.m. ET. He weighs 7 pounds and 9 ounces and measures 20 inches long. A photo of Cassie and the newborn was posted on the site.
"We can't stop staring at him and he hasn't stopped chit-chatting with us since he arrived," the happy parents wrote. "He's got Momma's nose and Daddy's eyes and vocal cords and a head full of blond hair."
"We feel like our life just began today and are so grateful for a healthy baby boy in our arms," they added.
Cassie had said on her Womanista website last year she had become pregnant. She said she and Charles, who wed in July 2009, had tried to conceive for years.
Cassie posted on her Instagram page on Super Bowl Sunday a selfie showing her cradling her baby bump while lying on a couch.
"Couch laying + waiting game on #superbowl #sunday! The best excuse to lounge & eat snacks all day," she wrote.
Cassie had revealed on Good Morning America last August she and Charles, 34, were expecting a son in February. She said a fertility doctor told them they had a 1 percent chance of conceiving naturally, after which they "made a plan to regroup" and "explore other options to expand our family." Last June, she discovered she was pregnant.
"Our baby decided to join our family in God's time, which is always right," she said.
Charles is the third and final member of Lady Antebellum to become a parent. Dave Haywood, 33, and wife Kelli Cashiola are parents to 1-year-old son Cash, while Hillary Scott, 29, and husband Chris Tyrrell have a 2-year-old daughter, Eisele.
