Rooney Mara hit the red carpet to talk about her work in the film Carol ahead of tonight's 2016 Golden Globes.

The star is nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture (Drama) for her performance in Carol.

The film is up for Best Motion Picture (Drama) as well.

So how did the actress prepare for the role in which she plays a young department store clerk who becomes romantically linked to a housewife (played by Cate Blanchett) going through a difficult divorce?

"I was lucky that there was a book, and the entire book is written from the character I plays' point of view, so I kind of had everything for me in there," Mara told E!'s Ryan Seacrest.

"There's so much nuance and subtlety in it," added Mara.

Mara hit the red carpet in a pale pink Alexander McQueen gown, from the designer's Spring 2016 line, with her hair pulled back in a braid.

As for whether she'll end up with a new Golden Globe as an accessory remains to be seen.
