Demi Lovato is feeling better than ever—and it shows.

Ahead of the release of her forthcoming album Confidentwhich is due to drop Oct. 16, the 23-year-old pop star caught up with Complex magazine and posed for a super-sexy (and topless!) shoot in addition to dishing on everything from her relationship with longtime boyfriend Wilmer Valderrama, her friendship with Iggy Azalea and her healthy, newfound outlook on body image.

"We have been together for almost five years now, off and on," Lovato said of Valderrama, 35, whom she met in 2010 and currently lives with in the Tarzana area of Los Angeles. "The only times that we were off was when I was not in a healthy state of mind, or he was like: 'I can't be with you until you get sober. I can't enable what you're doing right now.'...So I did, and then that made our relationship so much stronger."

While rumors have continually swirled that the two are engaged, they're not ready to tie the knot just yet—although Lovato does have wedding bells on her brain.

"I love shabby chic [weddings]... I don't know if it would be in a barn, but I think I'd definitely want an outdoor wedding, with lights hanging in the trees," she revealed of her future nuptials, later adding, "With Wilmer, I'm the happiest that I've ever been, so that's all that matters to me."

Babies, however, are a different story. "His [Wilmer's] parents are hilarious. His dad's always like, 'Make babies.' Like, 'Oh god. Not yet. Not any time soon,'" she confessed.

Personal life aside, Lovato is also killing it in terms of her career. She most recently dropped her new single "Confident" and her tune "Cool For the Summer," which she called a "really ballsy" song, topped the charts and became a summertime anthem.

As for her next goal? Well, that comes in the form of a gold gramophone.

"I just want to be nominated for one [a Grammy]," she told Complex. "You can't go higher than the Grammys in the music industry. That was a huge goal for this album."

Lovato's professional success has reached new heights thanks, in part, to her personal growth. In fact, the former Disney star, who entered rehab at the age of 18, is feeling more confident than ever.

"Lately, I've been coming to terms with my imperfections and not obsessing so much about trying to make myself perfect," she admitted. "It's a growing process."

Calling the Kardashians her curve inspiration, she said the famous family "kind of revolutionized what beauty was when it came to body shapes...From then, I noticed that Beyoncé was thicker, and Nicki Minaj is thicker," she shared before clarifying, "When I say thick—like when I call my thighs thick—I love it...Watching them really helped me learn to accept my body image, too. I'm not naturally super thin. I have an athletic body. I just have to embrace that. There are days when it's hard to, but more and more, there are days where I'm actually proud of my body."

Lovato also opened up about her friendships in the interview, including BFF Iggy Azalea (whom she met at Jennifer Lopez's Halloween party and who has enlisted her to be a bridesmaid in her wedding) as well as Selena Gomez

Asked if she and Selena, who were recently photographed together for the first time since 2014, are talking anymore, the singer simply replied, "Nope."

But while she may no longer be BFFs with Selena, Lovato has found an amazing friend in Azalea.

"She's so awesome. She's very, very, very real," she said, later adding, "Iggy has really gone through s--t and she's come out super strong and didn't let that take her down a devastating path. There's respect there. The fact that she's gone through so much and I've gone through so much and on a Friday night we can make gingerbread houses together instead of going out and drinking our sorrows away—that's f--king cool."

She added: "It's nice to have somebody who's younger in the entertainment business who doesn't do all of that stuff."

As for those recent headlines about her sexuality ("Cool For the Summer" is rumored to be about lesbian relationship)...?

Although she wouldn't reveal what the song is really about, she did tell the mag, "Love is fluid. Whether there's been rumors with one specific person or not, that's all that matters. Humans are humans, and when you connect with somebody on a spiritual level it doesn't matter.

"I don't want people to ever look at the past or rumors or anything and try to figure me out," Lovato, who also confirmed that was never in a relationship with Ruby Rose, continued, adding, "There's a lot of relationships that I've had where nobody has even guessed it. Not everybody knows everything about me. The only thing that matters to me is that people know who I am today."
