Kate Middleton's younger brother, 28, and his girlfriend of over two years, Donna Air, 36, denied any split rumors in a recent interview with HELLO! Daily News.
In a joint statement the pair said: "Mark Twain once complained that reports of his death were exaggerated. A few days ago we were equally amazed to read the obituaries of our relationship in the national press."
They continued, "Happily, we can report that our relationship is NOT over. We are still very much a couple and have not parted ways."
A source close to the James tells E! News that the duo was, in fact, on a short break after a bit of a rocky patch in their relationship, but it's clear that they're back on.
According to our insider, they had been "on a break period," saying that there have been problems, and it has been very on/off for months. They had cooled it off a few weeks ago, but do not want to publicly acknowledge any split as they're currently battling to save their relationship.
Rumors began circulating last week that the couple had split after Air took to Instagram to share a cryptic message of a quote that read: "Accept what is, let go of what was, have faith in what will be."
At the time, several sources told E! News James and Air had decided to call it quits, saying the 8-year age gap did "put pressure on the relationship." While Air—who already has a 12-year-old daughter from a previous relationship—was ready to start a family with James, he just isn't in that mindset at all right now.
Other insiders also noted that the breakup had been coming for "months," saying, "Donna desperately wanted make it work but James has been distant for a long time."
However, it appears that distance makes the heart grow fonder, and James seemingly wants to continue to work things out with Air.
