"My anaconda don't want none unless you got buns dyed black with A1 sauce, hun!" – Burger King's jingle for their new Whopper, probably*
*It's definitely not
After the unsettling allure and intrigue of Burger King Japan's black burger, Americans are finally getting their own version. Burger King's Halloween Whooper—excuse us, the correct name is the HA1loween Whopper, is a spooky special that has a distinct ebony color to either get you pumped for Halloween or turn you off to your burger altogether.
The bun gets its black color from the A1 steak sauce baked directly into the bun. If that sounds gross to you, then you should know that Japan's version is colored by squid ink. Which would you prefer?
"Our U.S. guests have been extremely curious about the bun flavors they've seen introduced in Japan and other countries, so we saw the opportunity to bring them an equally unique experience," said Eric Hirschhorn, Chief Marketing Officer for Burger King North America in a press release. "We tailored the flavor of the black bun to the American palate with A.1. sauce, a flavor this country loves, and we're delivering it in a way that's never been done before by baking it into the bun. It may look Japanese but it tastes like America,"
So it's a normal Whopper (beef patty, cheese, tomatoes, lettuce, onions and pickles) but it's topped with A1 sauce as well. And of course that shiny, glistening black bun.
The Halloween Whopper is only available for a limited time. Do you dare try it?
