Over-the-knee boots are hard enough to wear as it is. Some styles can suffocate the thighs while others will cut your stature down. But if there's one thing we've noticed lately (especially during fashion month), it's that celebs love a lengthy boot—and they're great at styling them too. Their no-fail trick? Keep those hemlines short.

Jessica Alba, for instance, pairs her mixed-print mini with a smooth, suede iteration. The boots anchor the ensemble while the A-line silhouette of the dress plays up the feminine factor, giving it a modern ‘70s vibe.

Kourtney Kardashian's genius styling plays with levels and proportions. Try wearing a bodysuit under a coat or oversized jacket for a sexy peek others will only see as you're walking. It's at both times subtle and dramatic.

When in doubt, a loose T-shirt dress is all you need to complement those boots. The point is to keep a sliver of skin between your shoes and clothes. However, if you really want to channel rocker-chic vibes à la Hailey Baldwin, get a little graphic and don't forget the leather jacket.

Model Jourdan Dunn perfects the look in two steps: over-the-knee boots and a form-fitting dress. Though the hem here falls beneath the top of the boot, the high slit creates that sliver of skin that a short hemline would do as well.

Over-the-knee boots have a tendency to look a bit severe and can veer into dominatrix territory. To soften the look, opt for lightweight fabrics up top. Billowy pieces, like the one Kate Bosworth is wearing, complements the statement shoes in a flirty, but not overwhelming, way.
