Fancy pants indeed!
While ample mermaid gowns and princess dresses paraded down the red carpet last night, let it be known that pants were the real MVPs of the 2015 Emmys (at least in the style department). And with January Jones leading the pack in a jade Ulyana Sergeenko jumpsuit, how could team trousers fail?
Stepping up to represent the dress-less bunch, Kiernan Shipka—at only 15 years old, mind you—made a couture statement in an off-the-shoulder Christian Dior design paired with tailored black bottoms. Fellow teen star Sophie Turner did work in a Galvan number with a sapphire bodice and high-waisted black slacks, and Glee alum Jane Lynch was not far behind either in a sophisticated black and white Escada set.

Pantsuits don't necessarily have to be menswear-inspired, but it sure doesn't hurt when they are. Proving that point, Lisa Kudrow slipped on a velvet tuxedo jacket over a pressed pair of trousers (and a blinding diamond necklace, obviously) while Tatiana Maslany put her own twist on the version with a plunging bright white version. And bringing it home with a classic suit, Carrie Brownstein was nothing short of lovely in her impressive ensemble.
Sorry, gowns—after this impressive pants-filled display, there was no question as to which silhouette ruled the Emmys' red carpet.
