Despite what intuition tells you, getting that crisp, high-fashion monochrome look can be a tricky thing. Sure, wearing only one color can simplify any wardrobe indecision, but it's the way you coordinate and layer the pieces that really counts. When done incorrectly, all black can veer too Morticia Addams. All red can make you look like a fire truck.

To help us take the concept to editorial-spread status, we tapped celebrity stylist Lindsay Albanese to show us how Hollywood elite does monochrome right. In honor of spring, we've created an all-white ensemble you can wear up to Labor Day and beyond.

"Achieving this look is as easy as pairing together all of your white separates that you already have in your wardrobe," Lindsay said. "Don't worry about matching exact colors, as mixing different shades of white and textures make the look more interesting."

1. Start with a basic foundation, with a comfortable cotton tee and bottoms of your choice.

2. For your second layer, add a soft, thin knit or something that's a bit more slouchy.

3. Add a structured or boxy top. Tip: Keep this layer shorter so the contrast between textures is more evident.

4. Add a bold pop of color with a statement accessory piece or beauty accent (think: cobalt crossbody or orange lip).

Apply these steps with any color and you have a red carpet-worthy look made simple.
